Why not something else like MetaCafe or Viddler or other video sharing websites? Why YouTube in particular? Let’s take a look at that now.
The first thing is that YouTube is owned by Google
As I said before. This has some surprising ramifications for YouTube and its future. As you may know, YouTube started out as a company that was not owned by Google. In fact, it was relatively recently that Google bought them.
If you look at Google and what they’re all about, they’re in the game to make money. They are interested in making money online. Having a company like Google behind you can only mean good things in terms of success in terms of making money.
That’s another thing. Google has pockets full of money. They can fund a company like YouTube for years to come if they want to. They have decided to endorse YouTube because they have seen the potential that YouTube has. That’s a very clear sign that YouTube is a technology to watch out for.
I think they are the second most visited website on the internet right now. I think Google is number 1. I have to double check those stats there, but YouTube is important.
Google also wants you to be successful. If you are successful, you will also make them more money and make them more successful. So the simple fact that they are behind YouTube means that they are working hard to make YouTube as easy as possible for you to be successful.
If you look at the changes that YouTube has undergone since Google bought them, you can see dramatic differences. You can see it in the AdSense program that was featured on YouTube videos. You can see in the different layouts and designs that they have been working on. You can see how YouTube videos rank much better within Google search engines. Having Google on your side is just huge.
Ranking of YouTube videos in Google search results
So you have that on your side. If you only submit videos to YouTube, your chances of ranking on Google are much higher compared to all other video sharing sites.
It is an incredible source of traffic
This is kind of an understatement, but if you look at YouTube, they hit a billion views per day recently. I’m not even sure if we can visualize that number, but imagine a billion coins, you could probably fill a whole stadium with coins. A billion hits a day is huge, and that’s just from one website.
In 2008 a study was done that showed that there were 71 million unique users in each month. That number has likely already been superseded, but this is the latest information we have on that particular youtube sharing stat. It is a big advantage. If you’re not using this as a source of traffic generation, you’re missing out.
